Still very much one of my fave restaurants. On a Friday night at 5p, my group of 8 was the only table in the main dining area. It started to fill up around 6pm.
GLOWS:
-The mushroom pizza is still some of my fav!
-Service was patient and efficient , as we tricked in because of the rain.
-The bartenders are so good at making all kinds of drinks!---and pretty mocktails!
GROWS:
-The took the apple cake off the menu! I need an explanation because it was sooo very good!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Feb 3, 2022Previous reviewStill a solid experience through and through.
GLOWS:
-I'm not really a fan of pizza but this mushroom pizza is soooo good!
-The Brussels sprouts are also very tasty. I had to ask for extra sauce on the side because they only give you a bit with the appetizer.
-The Italian kit kat is bomb!!!!
- The apple dessert is good as well!
GROWS:
- Friends said the pork belly lacked flavor and was a bit dry
- In the winter, seating near the window is collllllld! I had to keep my coat on the entire time.Feb 22, 2021Previous reviewGuess who's back?!?
So happy that after an 11 month closing- that I was starting to think was permanent- Birroteca is back open.
GLOWS:
- Call in to make a reservation, ensures you will have a seat as they start to book up their limited space.
- Parking lot out front, so you can avoid the Hampden/union mill parking headache.
- Hand sanitizer and sign in book at entry way for contact tracing.
-Beyond friendly, accommodating, and efficient service!
- Mushroom pizza is bomb!!! Not a fan of the high price tag, but it's good!
- Individual hand sanitizers at each table! I love it ---
GROWS:
- The caramel sauce on the apple cake dessert tasted like a shot of fireball. It hit me in the throat, and I did not enjoy that. Otherwise the cake was good!
- It could benefit from a name change as it reminded me more of a pecan swirl than apple.
- The ice cream portion could be a bit bigger.Nov 15, 2020Previous reviewSo sad that they have been closed for the entire pandemic.
Cozy atmosphere. Great wines and drinks. Pizza options are good. Pasta is fresh and tasty,
I enjoyed the dessert as well.
Service was a bit slow, but we made a night out if it and it was fine.
I love that they have an intimate dining section, and the bar area for more lively accommodations.
Overall, I was please with my experience, and I hope they will reopen soon so that I can return. - Julie L.Rochester Hills, MI566213Apr 22, 2024
Loved this place. Felt like I was in rural Italy. Their happy hour is pretty awesome, I got grapefruit and vodka which was refreshing. Their shrimp risotto was extremely delicious and I'll be coming back just for that. We also got the pizza which was great too. Spacious seating and ambience was cool.

Wonderful food and pours. We stopped in Sunday at 5pm for dinner with our oldest son and his family. Everyone ordered the pizzas except for me and the one-year old. She had her usual, three meatball spaghetti and I ventured with the duck leg with arugula salad and duck fat fried potatoes. I was very much impressed. The three other adults were equally impressed with their pizzas. Service was outstanding. The Caribbean nitro stout was a treat to enjoy with my meal. The appetizers of fried chickpeas and the Brussels sprouts were excellent, as always. The building itself is unique with its stone walls and proximity to the Jones Falls. It has a large parking area. We recommend making reservations.

Brussel sprouts were good; I didn't care for the calamari. Three of us had a boar and pasta dish (can't remember it's fancy name) and my wife opted for risotto with various mushrooms. Everyone enjoyed their meal...I was not wowed. The dessert was outstanding. We shared an individual pear-gingerbread cake and a terrific candy bar like item.

For two, here's what you should get :
-Spicy Spiced Crispy Chick Peas

-Take home for Sister: Gemelli (spinach green olive pesto and pasta) Note: Sooo good!
Romantic vibe, varied seating at tables, near windows, the bar or outside under canopy. Our waitress was great and efficient with the courses and bow-wow bags! Mom and I loved it! And we got takeout for Sister: Gemelli (spinach green olive pesto and pasta) Note: Soo good!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 13, 2023Updated review

Ordered the yummy orchiette with sausage and broccoli rabe for myself! Spicy, salty, bitter, and seeet with roasted tomatoes. Enjoyable although I wanted more chunky sausage. Just a personal preference! Grapefruit Vodka wine brought out quickly. So refreshing and delicious! Daughter got Apple juice and kids meal cheese pizza! She enjoyed both and dad enjoyed left over pizza!! Love this place!! Will definitely be back!!
Oct 7, 2022Previous reviewI love Birrotecca!! Never had a bad meal!! Love Happy hour!! Everything is 5$! I got the Brussels sprouts!! Crispy and delicious but what killed it was the garlic aioli!! Yum!! I also got the bruschetta when bomb tomatoes ie roasted tomatoes that burst in you mouth!! It had burrata on it with crispy bread!! Amazing!! My drink was a mix of sparkling wine, vodka and your choice of juice. I picked grapefruit!! Delicious and did the trick!! I'll always come back!! Just wish it was open on Monday and Tuesday when I'm normally in the area!!!

Loved the food, very obviously all made from scratch. cozy neighborhood hidden gem. We can't wait to get there again. Industrial interior is an old factory which is cool, but I took off one star bc the lighting was hurting my eyes from glare. Definite must if you are near, and worth it as a destination.

Visited Birroteca on a quiet Saturday eve around 8ish and found one of many open seats at the bar. This place was bustling but not packed. I ordered an Aperol Spritz, Margherita Pizza, and the Italian Kit Kat for dessert. The pizza was crispy with the perfect dough:sauce:mozz ratio. The sauce is simple yet tasty. I'll definitely be back to try a pasta or risotto dish because on this particular visit I came with the mission to specifically fulfill a pizza craving. That said, cheers to a great time!

Best pizza i ever eaten in Baltimore!!! So freaking good. Wish the bar was a little brighter; also they had the heater on that had us sweating. But delicious.

Birroteca is our favorite neighborhood bar and pizza joint. Cozy vibes and always fun sitting at the bar for a casual night out! Pizza is good - only wish it was Neapolitan! Service is great.

Well well, what can I say? I really really really wanted to love this place. But this place wouldn't let me be great.
After attending a local Yelp event, I chose this place over one of my favorites because it was nearby and it has some really good Yelp reviews so I was really interested in visiting and sharing the same experience.
I did not share that same experience.
My Yelp friend and I decided to give this place a visit.
When we 1st entered, there was a older guy named Mike. He was initially personable although really wasn't too helpful in identifying 2 seats.
I asked about 2 bar seats in front of us and he told us no one was sitting there but it looks like someone has to clean it up. And that was it. He had no interest in wiping down the bar area for us or making arrangements with someone else to do it. That was a little bothersome.
Another staff member (from the bar) did eventually agree to wipe the cluttered counter and we were pleased.
Immediately when we sat down and requested water.
... I'm going to lessen the suspense about the water... we never got it.
Collectively we ordered...
- Mai Kinda Tai (Apricot Allspice Rum, Orgeat Syrup Grand Marnier, Lime Grapefruit)
- Brussels Sprouts (Black Garlic Aioli, Chili Oil, Coppa)
- Meatballs (House Ricotta, Tomato Sauce)
- Crispy Pork Belly
Soon after ordering, we noticed an older couple walked in and not only were they greeted ecstatically, the older guy Mike actually cleaned off the bar area for them.
Next, the bar guy Tim that was assisting us and never brought us waters, IMMEDIATELY brought them two waters.
I didn't even hear them ask for water !!
I'm not sure why we couldn't have water this evening but we just couldn't have water this evening.
Waited 15+ minutes for bill after asking for it. Another 5 minutes while waiting for cc's and signature receipts.
Something positive...
The food was absolutely amazing! The food came out within 7 to 10 minutes of ordering, beautifully plated and delicious! Perfect temperature presentation!
Sadly I was considering this place as one of my birthday event locations but that will not happen!!
As much as I absolutely love the food, I can't go anywhere EVER where I'm not appreciated.
It's 1 thing if the food wasn't as great but the customer service was bad and intentional.
I can't deal with bad customer service.
Do better!Helpful 10Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0
